EVENTS
Cross-Country
The Cross-Country race is completed on a closed circuit, 4-5 kms long. It is a hard race, and depending on the category can last from 1 hour to 1 hour 45 minutes. The trails are tight, wooded, rocky and often times cross streams. It débuted as an Olympic sport in Atlanta in 1996.
Relay
This is a unique event, raced by teams of three (3), where each member completes one tour of the cross-country or modified cross-country circuit. The start order of each team member is determined by the coaches based on team strategy.
Sprint
The sprint is an elimination event inspired by cross-country skiing, which brings spectators closer to the racers. Depending on the structure of the event, five or six racers start at the same time on a 1 to 2 km long circuit; the top two or three racers move on to the next round.
